What We've Been Up To:

Lou, Erik, and Jay all saw The Hobbit. Lou caught it in 3D.
Lou caught up on Doctor Who, while Erik just started watching it for the first time.
Lou and Erik saw the pilot for Continuum.
Lou watched the pilot for Deception and saw Monsters Inc. in 3D.
Jay saw Django Unchained and Looper, played "Noble Nutlings" on the iPad, and read "Hellboy in Hell."
Erik is annoyed that he accidentally found a major spoiler for "Scoundrels" (Timothy Zahn) in the unlikeliest of places. He also watched the first two seasons of Archer, played "Journey" and "Heavy Rain" for the PS3, and found Dredd to be a major improvement over the old Stallone version.

Discussion:

The Walking Dead gets Scott Gimple as its new show-runner as AMC fires Glen Mazzara.
ABC says it's "going to look at" the new live-action Star Wars series.
The "Marvel Heroes" MMO launches its pre-order "Founders Program," but is it worth the cost?
The White House responds to the "Death Star" petition in a light-hearted yet serious way.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. television series will take place after the Avengers battle in New York City. Yes, that's a big deal.

This is our new podcast focusing on news and rumors about the upcoming Star Wars films!

This first episode is primarily an introduction, but we cover some news about possible writers of Episodes VIII & IX, and we discuss the importance of villains.

News & Rumors:

According to Deadline.com, Disney has approached Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes, Jumper) to write Star Wars sequels. Presumably, since Michael Arndt is doing Episode VII, Kasdan and Kinberg are being courted for Episodes VIII & IX.

Borys Kit (Hollywood Reporter) tweeted that "deals are closed. And they will also be producers."
Lou & Erik agree that Kasdan would be a good choice.
Erik thinks that Kinberg is good at writing relationships between protagonists but hasn't proven himself with writing villains yet.
