I just assumed everyone on the podcast already watched “The Wire”. While LOST is more escapist and The Wire is more cynical, realist and social commentary and they are totally different shows, as someone who loves LOST, The Wire is heads and shoulders above LOST.

IMHO, The Wire is *the* best series… ever.

There are 5 seasons, there is a good resolution and it is serial. There are payoffs from things you saw in much earlier seasons. You don’t exactly want young kids to be around though as the language is very explicit (on the order of Deadwood – Swearengens everywhere). The writing is *amazing*.

While I’m not a subscriber to HBO, I am looking forward to watching Treme, from The Wire creators, on DVD.

I am bummed LOST will be gone, but, Stargate Universe, as escapist TV, is starting to pick up. I thought Fringe would be the replacement as the podcast does, but SGU is getting to be the more compelling by episode and has a bigger cast and bigger “universe” and I am really tired of time travel.

And I’m surprise no one mentioned Dexter – that’s a serial as well.
