LC_011: Small Bladders

There's been lots of news, press releases, and bonus content in the world of Lost fandom recently -- and aside from the spoilers, it's all just fluff. However, Nathan, Joe and Erik wade our way through the Season Five hype and discuss each's favorite Season Four episode, look at the Season Four DVD's, check out Ajira Airways, and talk a little bit about small bladders.

I don’t like being a hater (especially since I have not listened for too long) – but I am very upset that I was spoiled in this episode! Erik, I know that you like reading spoilers and that you did not like being called out for incorrectly stating Ms. Hawking was on the island… but that certainly does not excuse you spoiling a specific aspect of the premiere ep of Season 5!

I work very hard (and it is very tough to turn off podcasts when spoiler alerts come up) to stay completely spoiler free… you flat out ruined a massive story point for me.

I am really disappointed. I kind of hope you guys will address this – but to be honest, I did not listen to the rest of the episode and I might not return either.

Sorry to be such a whiner about this but staying spoiler free honestly is how I enjoy LOST. Take it seriously.

  2. Erik Said,

I’m sorry to hear you were upset by the episode, though I can understand why.

I should clarify — I DO NOT know whether she’s in the premiere. Honestly, I only read about half as many spoilers as I let on in the first place, and the comment in the show that she’s in the premiere was a jab back at Nathan and Joe for ribbing me about being a spoiler hound.

The producers said she’ll be back in Season Five. This was part of at least one (if not more) Q&A sessions they had to promote the show, and there’s no particular episode or series of episodes that fact should spoil. It was practically a throw-away answer from them anyway — it’s a safe assumption after “Flashes Before Your Eyes” that they’d be revisiting her at some point anyway.

The comment about her being in the premiere was meant as a joke and was meant to harass Nathan and Joe in retaliation for them harassing me. Immediately after saying it, if I recall correctly (I’ll have to listen again), I tried to clarify that I did NOT know whether she’d be in the premiere.

So I apologize that I wasn’t more clear about the fact that I was kidding around at Nathan and Joe’s expense.

Rest assured, I have no information indicating when, where, or in what way she appears. Regarding Ms. Hawking, I know only what the producers have said.

Sorry for the confusion. I’ll be more careful in the future.

    A few more things…

I don’t mind being called out for confusing Ms. Hawking and Isabel. I’m upset at myself for screwing it up, but I’m not bothered by being called out on it. I make mistakes, and I’m not afraid to fess up to them (nor bothered by doing so). I was very quick to respond to the comment, agreeing with the poster, and I made a point of bringing it up voluntarily in the very next podcast episode.

    I’ll make more mistakes. Don’t worry. ;)

Finally, I do understand that it’s often hard to turn off a podcast quickly enough even when spoiler warnings are given. On all of our podcast series, I try to make sure there’s ample time between a spoiler warning and the spoilers themselves for people to turn off their device, skip ahead to another episode, or whatever. I agree with you fully, and we’re mindful of that.

  3. Erik Said,

Okay, so I just went back and listened. It’s nowhere near as clear as I’d meant it to be that I was joking.

Again, my apologies. I have no information about where, when, or how Ms. Hawking will appear in season five. I was merely poking at Nathan and Joe.

I’ll be way more clear about such things in the future. Promise.

And we’ll continue to stay clear of actual spoilers unless we give ample warning in advance (for example, we didn’t name who was on the “wall of life/death” in the writers’ room, and we gave a warning before naming the first seven episode names of season five).

…of course, if she DOES show up in the premiere now, I’m gonna feel like crap…

Thank you Erik for honestly addressing this. I need to appreciate your position in this and of course – this is a free program that I get to enjoy… so, thank you for the work you put into it.

I look forward to your next episode!
