I just tried adding Rec to my Netflix queue based on your recommendation, but it appears it’s not available yet. I checked Amazon too, but it’s only available in Region 2 (I only have Region 1).

I’ll keep an eye out for it and see if I can locate it somewhere. If you know of someplace I can either get it online or buy a Region 1 (or region-free) version, please let me know. I’d definitely like to check it out.

Did anyone watch Rec? It is a spainish movie, that this was based on. Anyway that being said, I though Rec was a far better movie. Also the awesomeness of Rec made this movie suck for me. Now I went to see this on a date, and she didn’t see Rec. For the most part she seemed to like it, but I found myself explaining things to her several times. Now this movie had several things that Rec didn’t and they were what we both agreed we didn’t like.

SPOILERS-

The dog never appeared in Rec, and I though it was utterly ridiculous, how did he get in, why didn’t the army kill him, why did they try to open the elevator, where did he go. We both started to laugh at this scene and it didn’t add to the scare at all.

The camera beat down, ok it was kind of cool to see, however the fact he had to wipe it down for 5 minutes sucked, and we basically had to talk to each other to keep ourselves entertained.

The army man shotting the guy, Ok WTF this part actually pissed me off since it made me question so much, they are trapped by saran wrap? why not Let the zombies out they shoot them and you can get out, no one outside question why there was s swat team surrounding a buliding.

The fallen zombie man getting up/seeing the broken leg, yeah whoppee a gross out scare, LAME, plus honestly can he stand on that leg? Also the rat gross out lame. Honestly get your Gross out scares out of my suspenseful jump out scare movie.

Now there were also alot of parts that were FAR FAR weaker.

The actual reveal/cause of the virus, was so poorly done. NOBODY KNEW WTF HAPPENED, watch Rec or I’ll tell you since Rec did it quite well.

When the Haz-mat guy came in it didn’t take 10 minutes to do something. I though Rec had amazing pacing in this however my date was bored several times.

OMG, the end in the night vision was so much better, the kid in Rec was held on longer and was alot scarier, plus the scientist, had a hammer just swing it around the the dark so much scrarier.

Also the little girl turning was so predictable, I remember how Rec handled it, but in this I found myself just waiting for it to happen.

There were alot more things I thought Rec did better, but so this isn’t so one sided there are somethings I liked in Quarantine that they added.

The Camera man, in Rec he wasn’t much of a character, but this he was very likeable, and you seen him more.

The using of the camera, the beat down was a awesome idea, I just wish the wiping wasn’t their.

Fireman + sledgehammer, Oh man was it fun watching him smash zombie heads, I thought you were rooting for him to kill them, rather then in Rec where you wanted them to just run.

T.V., this was actually a good idea it gave some good back story, and connected with the characters more.

Jerk firemen, when he betted that he could nail her I thought it was alot more natural and funny to a otherwise boring part of the movie.

Vet/Rabies, in Rec it was a Nurse however I liked that it had similar symptoms to rabies. It had it feel more real.

Overall, I thought Rec was a perfect 10 movie, while this was 7-8. I was just really disappointed since it was marketed as a shot for shot remake of Rec, and it was alot worst. Overall if you like Quarantine please please please watch Rec. Also, I wouldn’t mind a comparison to it at some point.
