Muppets Returning to TV?

Jason Segel

This seems like an odd team-up, much like Robert DeNiro & Ben Stiller, Morgan Freeman & Jim Carrey, or Vin Diesel & a parenting film.

Jason Segel is quickly making a name for himself. His long-time fans know him from Freaks and Geeks or Undeclared, both of which I missed. I did, however, see the incredibly funny Forgetting Sarah Marshall (which he also wrote), and I'm now an avid watcher of How I Met Your Mother.

Jason's very underrated, and it's quickly getting to the point where I'll watch anything he's in just because he's in it. He's the type of person I could totally see myself hanging out with. Maybe it's just the roles he takes, but he seems very down-to-earth, perhaps a bit geeky, and a genuinely nice guy. And in my opinion, that makes his work much easier for me to relate to and enjoy, much like that of Kevin Smith, Seth Rogen, and others.

I'm sure some of you may have heard that Jason Segel is going to be writing and directing a new Muppets film. Normally I couldn't care less, but this time I'm curious. Like many people my age, I grew up on the Muppets. And I think Jason just might be able to pull it off.

What's interesting is that if the movie is successful, Jason will apparently be bringing the Muppets back to television.

What do you think? Is there any place for the Muppets in today's media? Could they pull off a modern "variety show" series like the original?
