MC_016: Blade Runner vs. The Matrix

Posted by Erik On July - 28 - 2008

This week we're taking a break from the theaters (though check out Andrew's review of Step Brothers). Instead, we're revisiting our "versus" series, this time with a bit of a spin. Rather than having Andrew and I face off over a single movie, we're debating which is better -- Blade Runner or The Matrix.

Have a FlickChart account? Head on over to this page at FlickChart to discuss it! Otherwise, head to our fourms!

Wolverine ComicCon Footage

Posted by Erik On July - 28 - 2008

We've got three shows going up later today, but until then, here's the ComicCon trailer for Wolverine. It's from a cell phone camera, and it's in two parts, but the quality's not too bad. Courtesy of TrailerAddict.com.

Randy Pausch passed away yesterday

Posted by Erik On July - 25 - 2008

Most of you probably have no idea who Randy Pausch is. Sadly, I only learned of him as many people did -- after he was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer. Randy was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, specializing in virtual reality and human interface design.

He's best known for his "Last Lecture," which has been making the rounds on YouTube since last year. In it, he talks about how important it was for him to pursue his childhood dreams rather than to focus on his impending death.

For all the crap that's on YouTube, this may be the one redeeming thing that balances the scales and makes me glad YouTube is around.

You should watch this. Yes, it's long. Yes, it's a lecture. However, it's interesting, and I bet it will be relevant to you on a personal level. And if nothing else, this is a great example of how to give a quality presentation on something (i.e. no "death by PowerPoint" and no techno-babble).

Seriously, please watch this.

[EDIT: Ren, about an hour into it, there's a "Tigger vs. Eeyore" thing.]

JMS writing new Silver/Wachowski project?

Posted by Erik On July - 22 - 2008

What?!? JMS (Babylon 5) is writing Ninja Assassin, the new movie by Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers? Why did nobody tell me this?

Here's the breakdown. The Wachowskis wrote the draft. JMS is doing the full writing and screenplay. Joel Silver and the Wachowskis are producing. James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) is directing.

Not sure what to think about this one. V for Vendetta was okay. Wasn't interested in Speed Racer And, of course, nobody seems to care much for the Matrix sequels. So there's a big part of me that has absolutely no interest in this film.

However, JMS is writing it. So while I'm a bit worried, I'll still be there opening night. Joe, don't let me down.

Slight technical issues; Will be fixed shortly

Posted by Erik On July - 22 - 2008

Thanks to Nivekeryas for pointing out that the shows posted last night (this morning?) have some scratchy sounds throughout the shows. This affects RandomChatter #15 and MovieChatter #14 only.

It's a long story, but I believe this has to do with the MP3 compression process, and it'll be easy to fix. Problem is, I can't do it until I get home from work.

For now, I'm yanking the last two shows. I'll have them remixed about six or seven hours from now.
