MC_005: Forbidden Kingdom

Posted by Erik On April - 30 - 2008

Wow. Andrew really didn't like Forbidden Kingdom. At all.

Sure, Forbidden Kingdom dominated the box office two weekends ago, but I'm getting the impression it was just due to good marketing. Andrew's review is insightful and... umm... well, passionate (I think the channeling of Dennis Leary at one point was unintentional). Did I mention he really didn't like this movie?

Seriously. Download this one. You won't hear Andrew this angry very often.

As an added bonus, I've included Andrew's "Top 5 Kung Fu Fights" feature. Andrew had recorded this prior to Forbidden Kingdom's release, but it seems fitting that the episode end up a high-note.

MC_004: Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Posted by Erik On April - 29 - 2008

Forgetting Sarah Marshall has been for about a week and a half now, but it's still one of the best movies in theaters at the moment. At least, that's my opinion. What does Andrew think? Check out today's show!

RC_009: Attack of the Remakes

Posted by Erik On April - 27 - 2008

I give up. When Hollywood says the're so desperate for content that they're going to remake the likes of Short Circuit and Adventures in Babysitting, that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel. So this week we're going to take a look at recent remakes, discuss what makes a good (or bad) remake, and look ahead at the flood of remakes to come.

MC_001: Street Kings

Posted by Erik On April - 15 - 2008

By popular demand, the RandomChatter podcast is splitting off the movie reviews into its own show! Welcome to the premiere episode of MovieChatter!

With MovieChatter, we'll be doing two types of shows. The first is a discussion-based format like you're used to. The other is a short "microcast" format in which we'll give five- to ten-minute-long reviews of movies. These will include new theatrical releases, new DVD releases, and even some older "Pick of the Week" DVDs.

In our first episode, we cover the cop drama Street Kings, in which Keanu "Whoa" Reeves, Forest "Gump" Whitaker, Chris "Flame On" Evans, and Hugh "Real Actor" Laurie read from a script written by a high-schooler. At least, that's how it seemed to us...

RC_008: Talkin’ Trailers

Posted by Erik On April - 7 - 2008

As you've noticed, it's that time of year again for the flood of summer movie trailers. But can you really judge a book by its cover -- or in this case, a movie by its trailer? To find out, we've invited Joe (Trailer Trash Talk) back to the show. Do trailers show all the good parts of the movie? Do they spoil too much? Do they mislead you? Let's talk trailers!

Sony’s Never Gonna Give You Up

Posted by Erik On April - 1 - 2008

As much as I absolutely loathe Sony, it turns out Sony/BMG is allowing use of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up."

In Episode 691 of Buzz Out Loud (a great podcast, by the way), a story is told about someone who posted a video of his grandkids on YouTube with the purpose of Rickrolling his family members. He got a copyright violation notice from YouTube. In this form letter, it lists the owner of the copyright, and it explains that if the word "approve" appears after the copyright owner's name, the video may stay up. The letter listed Sony/BMG, after which was listed "approved for all use".

("Rickrolling" is an Internet meme in which someone gives out a seemingly important or relevant link which instead directs the victim to a video of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up.)

Congratulations! You may now Rickroll without consequence! Well, at least not from Sony...
